Jamie Man 文珮玲 (London, 1987) is an artist whose work as a composer and conductor is primarily concerned with music and the poetic mystery of what we are. PLAY: Episodes in Subspace, commissioned by the Gulbenkian Music Foundation (Lisbon) was the first of her operas created specifically for concert hall staging and premiered in 2016 staged by her collaborator Kristiina Helin. Jamie was a Sound and Music embedded composer with The Mahogany Opera Group (London, 2013-15), ENOA Artist-in-Residence at LOD Muziektheater (Ghent, 2018) and Soundhub Composer with the London Symphony Orchestra (London, 2018-9).
After receiving the Britten-Pears Conductors Bursary in 2010, Jamie worked as assistant conductor to Oliver Knussen and later at De Nationale Opera (Amsterdam) for Claude Vivier's Kopernikus. Since then, Jamie's conducting work has included re-invitations to the Aldeburgh Music festival (Snape) in concerts with Pierre-Laurent Aimard, the UK premiere of Philip Glass' Les Enfants Terribles (London), The Transmigration of Morton F. at La Monnaie de Munt (Brussels) in collaboration with the Holland Festival (Amsterdam) and recordings for the independent record label, Another Timbre.
